A teaser trailer for the ninth season of American Horror Story has just dropped, and it’s definitely giving us vintage vibes. Titled 1984, this season of FX’s long-running horror anthology will pay homage to classic horror movies and slasher films from the 80s.
The teaser is just under a minute long, but it packs quite the punch. This season will follow a group of teens traveling to Camp Redwood for a wholesome summertime getaway, complete with pickup games of football and leisurely swims in the lake. Little do they know that they’re not alone—a knife-wielding masked maniac lurks nearby, ready to strike. The hapless teens ignore signs of danger as they head straight to their doom.

The teaser gives us a sneak peek into one of the many heart-stopping moments packed into the upcoming season. As the teens are unpacking and taking a dip in the refreshing lake waters at Camp Redwood, one girl floats away from her companions on a canoe. While she’s relaxing and taking in some sun, the masked killer rises from the water and gets ready to plunge his knife into her skull. As he readies himself to snag his prey, the girl lets out a blood-curdling scream just before the screen cuts, leaving us to wonder about her fate.
In usual AHS fashion, actors and actresses from the previous eight seasons will make a return for this upcoming installment in the series. So far Emma Roberts, Sarah Paulson, Cody Fern, and Billie Lourd have confirmed that they will appear in 1984. New faces that will be making their AHS debut include Gus Kenworthy, Matthew Morrison, Angelica Ross, DeRon Horton, and Zach Villa.
