It’s time to return to Manitowoc, Making a Murderer fans. Season two of the hit true crime docu-series is officially happening.

On January 24, Netflix’s VP of original content, Cindy Holland, confirmed the good news. She told USA Today

“The story is still ongoing, so you will see new episodes coming sometime this year as this story continues to unfold.”

While details are few, we do know that filmmakers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demo are back behind the camera and that season two will revisit Manitowoc county and the Avery case. Holland continued, “We don’t know when for sure new episodes will be coming. Laura and Moira are on the ground [in Manitowoc] shooting regularly and working on what the right story is to tell in the next set, so we’re deferring to them on when it will be ready.”

Holland added, “Very few people inside of Netflix actually know the details of what we’re getting because we’re wanting to keep it really under wraps and it is an ongoing case so we’re trying to be sensitive to that.”

The first season of MaM, which was released on Netflix in 2015, followed the case of Steven Avery, a man from Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Avery was wrongfully convicted of sexual assault and attempted murder, and served 18 years in prison. He was exonerated in 2003, only to be rearrested, just two years later, for the murder of photographer Teresa Halbach. Avery was convicted of the murder of 2007, alongside his nephew Brendan Dassey, who confessed under interrogation.

In August 2016, a federal judge overturned Dassey’s conviction, citing a lack of evidence and a coerced confession. Many believe the popularity of the series also helped shine a light on Dassey’s case, and played a part in his conviction being overturned. As of November 2016, however, Dassey’s release from prison was blocked, as state attorneys filed an appeal.

For now, all we can do is wait with bated breath for a season two release date … and, of course, re-binge season one in the meantime.
