Ari Aster’s sophomore feature is under a lot of pressure to perform–Hereditary was one of the most terrifying releases in 2018, scaring critics and horror geeks alike. Thankfully, the deeply unsettling new trailer for Midsommar has us convinced that Hereditary’s success was no one-time fluke.

Midsommar follows Dani, a young woman going through rough times, according to her seemingly-uninterested, mediocre boyfriend. When said boyfriend, Christian, decides to go to a summer retreat in Sweden, he invites Dani to tag along. They’ll be taking part in a midsummer festival, alongside all of Christian’s friends, who are at best uncharitable and at worst deeply unfeeling.
Upon arriving in what should be an idyllic summer pasture–just look at those colors and the flowers and the light–Dani soon realizes that something is deeply wrong. She and fellow festival attendee Mark attempt to pin down that unerring sense of horror, only to find themselves even deeper in what appears to be a cult.
