Two Georgia residents came together to help save an elderly man’s life when they found him being attacked by a man with a knife, Fox 29 reports.

It was one afternoon in Gwinnett County when resident Karen Duncan heard, “Help, he is trying to kill me, help me, help me,” the report said.

Karen was reportedly walking up her friend’s driveway when she heard those cries. Instead of running away or ignoring the man, Duncan said she grabbed her friend and her purse.

She rang the doorbell of friend Ron Childress before running in the direction of the victim, with her handbag in tow. As Duncan got closer, she said, “I see blood and this big ole knife.”

The suspect was reportedly on top of the 90-year-old victim with the knife. She told the suspect, “I’m going to shoot you.”

That’s when the suspect tossed the knife, but he wasn’t able to escape. Childress wasn’t far behind, and as a former law enforcement officer, he knew what to do.

The report says he had his gun too and told the suspect not to move and to put his arms and legs out. The man didn’t move until police arrived, and fortunately everyone survived the incident.
