As many of you know, our inaugural Creepy Crate is now out in the world! This box was a labor of love and madness, and we're thrilled with how it turned out. The Lineup's Editorial Director and Creepy Crate Founder Jennifer shared the contents of the first box in a Facebook Live unboxing video. In case you missed it, check it out below:
WARNING: Spoilers ahead!
Our team hand-picked every morbid item, working directly with vendors from across the world. Here’s a breakdown of the terror that awaits you …
1. As our loyal readers know, nothing gets us going like a bone-chilling serial killer case. This inspired the first item in the box: a set of serial killer playing cards, featuring some of the most notorious murderers throughout history. Each card breaks down the crimes of a particular killer, ranking him or her by degree of gruesomeness. This deck comes from Germany, from the wonderful mind of Michael Miess of Kulturmeister.
2. Playing off our love of all things horrific (in particular, our obsession with Countess Elizabeth Báthory), we included a “bloody” shower gel, shipped over from England. Hang it in from your showerhead to give your next houseguest the chills.
3. We reached out to Susanne Goethals, CEO of Creepy Co., to create a special edition cemetery angel enamel pin. Creepy Co. made just 1,000 of these pins, so if you’re one of the lucky recipients of Creepy Crate #1, you scored a very limited-edition item.
4. As long-time fans of Norman Bates (and Norma!), Alfred Hitchcock, and the Bates Motel TV series, we knew that Psycho was the horror movie we wanted to feature in our first Crate. A hotel keychain, fittingly shipped from L.A., unlocked our wish—and gave Creepy Crate subscribers the chance to play out their Psycho-tic fantasies, complete with bloody shower scene.
5. To give our box a uniquely cannibalistic feel, we included an edible “body part” made by Chicago candy store Vintage Confections. The creepy 3D eyeball lollipop is chillingly life-like, and tastes like strawberry.
6. Our friends at Shudder, the killer horror-movie streaming service, offered a free two-month subscription to their vast catalog of terror. Plug in your coupon code and start streaming immediately.
7. We also included a download of the horror novel Cage of Bones, by Tania Carver.
8. Forty lucky subscribers scored a signature The Lineup “Creepy is Cool” T-shirt.
9. One lucky subscriber received the golden ticket: Admission for two true crime lovers to CrimeCon 2017 in Indianapolis, Indiana, June 9–11!
